Mercury starts production of new OptiMax 175 Pro XS Outboard Engine

August 2007 News

Weighing 431 pounds, the 175 Pro XS offers an outstanding power-to-weight ratio compared to the competition. The OptiMax Pro XS engines have powered the last two Bassmaster Classic fishing tournaments.
The 175 Pro XS is a true hybrid engine, featuring components from five engine families. Developed in coordination with engineers and technicians at Mercury Racing, the 175 Pro XS delivers boosts in horsepower and torque, delivering top-end speed and acceleration superior to its stock counterpart,
the 175 hp OptiMax.
Carbon fiber reeds and a higher injection pressure give these engines low-end and mid-range power to push tournament-loaded rigs to new heights. In addition, the new two-stroke direct-injected outboard features a high-output 60-amp alternator and a three-star CARB rating-the highest emissions
compliance level for outboards.
The OptiMax fuel system matches-and even surpasses-the fuel efficiency of many of today's large four-strokes, and consumes up to 45 percent less fuel than traditional two-strokes.
J.D. Power & Associates recognized OptiMax for delivering the "Highest Customer Satisfaction with Two Stroke Outboard Engines Two Years in a Row, Tied in 2007."
The 175 Pro XS OptiMax outboard is manufactured at Mercury's headquarters in Fond du Lac, and is available through authorized Mercury dealers.
