Boating choices were once black and white: four-stroke engines boasted advanced technology and reliability, but couldn't equal the acceleration of traditional two-strokes. Mercury, driven by a history of innovation, set out to manufacture a four-stroke engine that would deliver performance and reliability with an automotive-like driving experience. Verado, a supercharged production outboard engine, provides all that and more.

Verado Enhancements

In June of 2007, Mercury unveiled enhancements for the Verado line that give consumers increased fuel efficiency and power without sacrificing reliability. A Verado outboard is an excellent pontoon and deck boat engine, not only because of the power steering and digital throttle and shift offerings, but because of its unbeatable torque, spectacular fuel economy, best-in-class sound rating and smooth ride. The six-cylinder models are great for high-performance pontoons and deck boats, and the four-cylinder models are slightly smaller, but still spectacular.

You'll have plenty more reasons to choose a Verado. Their high-performance alternator will keep you powered up all day. At just 1,000 RPM, the alternator delivers 50 amps, which is more than many competing alternators produce at full throttle. At full throttle, the Verado alternator produces an impressive 70 amps to keep your battery strong. Verado's supercharged system delivers the torque big boats need for immediate planing, superior mid-range acceleration and sustained planing at lower speeds. Besides that, the unique Verado Charge Air Cooler teams with the supercharger to deliver superior hole shot and acceleration by cooling the compressed air before it enters the engine's combustion chambers. The ensuing combustion is more complete and intense, which translates to more power. Finally, its injection-molded intake manifold increases torque and power by delivering higher levels of airflow, critical for the most efficient combustion.

The six-cylinder Verado features a unique Cradle-Mount Design with four oversized, calibrated elastomer mounts surrounding the powerhead to isolate and eliminate vibration. The result is an incredibly smooth ride. In addition, the advanced midsection design incorporates a new steering-to-engine-axis geometry, which contributes to the system's solid, precise steering and improves handling at higher speeds.

Mercury's Enertia propeller features a revolutionary design that can increase acceleration up to 30 percent and boost top-end speed by 2 miles per hour. The patented X7 alloy makes it four times more durable than traditional metals, so the thin blades and higher rake angles increase efficiency without sacrificing durability.
