Hands-on powerboating courses for women

September 2009 News

The Women's Sailing and Powerboating School is offering a full season of women-only powerboating courses from Sarasota, Florida. These five-day, liveaboard classes will be held from October 2009 through June 2010.

Classes are taught on board a comfortable, fully-equipped 42-foot twin-engine powerboat. The curriculum includes boat handling in open water, close quarters maneuvering, docking, anchoring, navigation, basic engine maintenance, line handling, knots and man-overboard prevention and recover. The course is designed to give students the opportunity to put their new knowledge of docking and navigation to work while taking the boat to a different harbor each day.

"In 20 years of teaching powerboating, Sea Sense has created a great place for women to learn with their peers. Learning by doing -- hands on -- works! These on-board classes build confidence and create new attitudes about boat handling and safety. Learn and have fun at the same time... what could be better than that?" said Captain Patti Moore, co-founder of Sea Sense.

The cost for the five-day course is $2,985. The price includes instruction, on board accommodations, all docking and fuel costs and most meals. Always included at no extra charge is a large dose of fun and adventure!
