Authorities seek Buffalo Bayou boat burners

July 2010 News

Crime Stoppers and its Law Enforcement Partners are asking for the public's help with any information that leads to the charging or arrest of anyone involved in the crimes that occurred to the Buffalo Bayou Partnerships boats on July 6th, 2010.

At 1:45 in the morning July 6th, the Houston Fire Department was called to the boat dock in the 900 block of York Street where the Buffalo Bayou Partnership stores the boats they use on the bayou.  After the fire was extinguished it was determined that the pontoon boat used for tours of the bayou and valued at over $50,000 was destroyed.  Also damaged was a bio-vac boat that is used to pick up floatable trash and debris along the waterway.

Later that same evening around 8:00 o'clock, witnesses saw 4 or 5 people ride their bikes up to the boat dock and start trying to untie several boats.   A witness yelled at them to leave and they did briefly.  Then they came back and untied 3 boats, including the 2 that were damaged that morning, releasing them onto the bayou.  The boats were recovered a short distance down stream.   The perpetrators also pushed a power supply unit for a conveyer belt that helps in recycling into the water ruining it.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for any information called in to the 713-222-8477 tips hotline or submitted online at www.crime-stoppers.org  that leads to the identification, arrest and/or charging of any of the suspects in this case.  Tips can also be sent by text message - Text TIP610 plus your tip to CRIMES (274637).  All tipsters remain anonymous.
