The Obama administration this week named John Goss as the so-called Asian carp czar.
The White House announcement comes as Michigan and four other states try to persuade a federal court to grant a temporary injunction to close the Illinois shipping locks to keep the invasive Asian carp out of Lake Michigan.
State officials say jobs and the region's $7 billion fishery industry are at stake.
