Could Zona's Awesome Fishing Show get any better?

November 2010 News

CENTREVILLE, Mich., November 16, 2010 - It's been called the Seinfeld of outdoor television programming. A self-proclaimed "knucklehead" host, who claims a fondness for the music of Men at Work and Mötley Cruë, and a kinship with the perverse characters of Comedy Channel's South Park, goes fishing.

Mark Zona of Zona's Awesome Fishing Show announced today that BoatUS Angler, a membership program for boat owning fishermen and provider of on-the-water towing services, roadside assistance and fishing boat insurance, is the show's newest sponsor. The deal kicks off with the January 31 episode and will continue through the first half of 2011.

"BoatUS Angler is going to help us with a new 'Z-Train Wreck of the Week' segment," said Zona, "which I think will be the highlight, or lowlight, of the week. It will show us doing all of the crazy things we do on the water, how we get into trouble, and what happens to our boats when all doesn't go so well." Zona says he hopes the segment can help viewers learn from others' mistakes and keep out of trouble.

A man who vows never to take himself seriously, Zona was previously the host of ESPN2's The World's Greatest Fishing Show on Earth and continues to host the Bassmasters television show for the channel.Zona's Awesome Fishing Show - which now moves to the Outdoor Channel - strives to capture the real-life fishing adventures of his viewers. "Like most fisherman, I'm a dork. While we make the best-laid plans, they don't always work out that way. We've had our trips slammed by snow and 40 mph winds, but at the end of the day, we've pounded 'em. Then we share the information on how we caught 'em."

Of the new sponsorship with BoatUS Angler, Zona says, "I don't know how you could be a bass fisherman without being a member of BoatUS. I have fumbled my way through some screwups on the water and the road that have messed up my weekend. With BoatUS you have people behind you to help. Membership is peace of mind when you're a long way from home."
