A tour of Taylorsville Lake Marina

April 2012 News

If you're searching for a great place to spend a week on the water, look no further than Taylorsville Lake Marina in Spencer County, Ky. Set on picturesque Taylorsville Lake, the marina is surrounded by forested hills in every direction. Jerry Sewell, longtime employee of the marina, is proud of the many amenities offered at the lake.

"We add something new every year," Sewell said. "Last year it was two-story pontoons with slides and floating waste disposal tanks. I'm still working on what we want to do for 2011."

Known throughout Kentucky as a safe, relaxing getaway location, Taylorsville Lake Marina boasts a state-of-the-art security system, including secured gate access and video surveillance.

For those who love the water, the marina offers a wide variety of watercraft to rent, including runabouts, jet skis, pontoon boats, cruisers and houseboats. The two-story slide pontoons, custom manufactured by Avalon Pontoons, have been a big hit since they were introduced, and promise to provide hours of fun in 2011, as well.Brian Richards, Vice President of Sales at Avalon, worked with marina owner Javan Montgomery and was able to add 15 new boats to the marina's rental fleet.

The marina also offers a Smokercraft fishing boat, obtained at the 2010 National Houseboat Expo in Louisville, Ky. Montgomery was the proud winner of the All Hands on Deck Poker Run held at the Expo, and took his winnings, the fishing boat, back home with him.

While the Smokercraft is mainly used for official business around the marina, they are willing to rent it out to interested fishermen.

Located only 30 minutes from Louisville, the lake is great for an afternoon of skiing and then go into the city for a night at the theater or fine dining at any number of high-quality restaurants.

Edgewater Resort (www.edgewatertaylorsvillelake.com) is located overlooking the marina, and offers luxurious lodgings for your visit. Newly-constructed private cottages are available for purchase as well as rent by the night, weekend or week. The resort is open 12 months out of the year and features a full day spa.

For those who like to rough it, Taylorsville Lake State Park features a full-hookup campground as well as hiking trails through the surrounding woods and an equestrian park for those who love horses.

With over 300 secure, covered boat slips, there's no worry about finding a place to moor your boat. The marina offers hydro-lifts for pontoon boats, jet skis, cruisers and other boat types.

If you're out on the lake intending to fish, bring bait and tackle suitable for bass, bluegill, crappie and more. The marina's website has a map of hot fishing spots to help you land the big one in as little time as possible.

If you need to rest after a hard day of tubing, the marina offers a full-service deli, where you can snack on onion rings or popcorn chicken, or get a full meal of a cheeseburger or pork tenderloin sandwich. The marina also supplies boaters with fishing supplies (including bait), skiing products and generic boating necessities.

You won't find a more scenic area to spend your next vacation. Pack up the family and head on over to Taylorsville Lake Marina for an afternoon or a week of boating fun.
