Product Test: Swedish Fireknife

Published in the August 2012 Issue August 2012 Ask The Expert Roy Sparks

One question: where was this knife when I was a Boy Scout!? I would have been the talk of camp had I got my hands on the Swedish FireKnife back them. When in the outdoors and when boating it's always good to have multi-purpose tools with knives with you because you never know when you might need it. But I've never seen a knife that combines the power of fire and steel into one convenient and vigorous device.

The new Swedish FireKnife is more than just an extremely sharp, flexible, and sturdy all-around knife: the handle contains a Swedish FireSteel Scout fire starter that twist-locks into the handle that can be used to light campfires, gas stoves, and grills in inclement conditions. The uses are endless and I think that's why I like it so much. The FireSteel truly is well concealed and you wouldn't even know it was there unless you were looking for it. With a suggested retail price of $39.99, if you do a lot camping or spend a significant time outdoors, this FireKnife could be considered a must-have.
