PDB TESTED No. 149: Basketball Hoop

Published in the September 2013 Issue September 2013 PDB Tested

Playing basketball while at the lake-how cool is that?! BoatFun Sports is really on to something with its portable mini basketball hoop that is designed specifically for boats. The company is currently offering modified versions of this hoop for tailgaters, backyard playsets, trampolines, recreational vehicles, camping and who knows what else. But it all started with the boat hoop and that’s what we wanted to get our hands on.

The hook version is ideal for pontoon boats, but the company does offer suction cups for boats with flat, smooth sides. There is also a sand auger version as well as a vertical pole bracket option, but hooking the backboard over the seat was the best option for us.

We started off at a sandbar, but found that playing in deeper water with the boat anchored up really helps level the playing field when no one can touch. The hoop is designed to fold down for easy storage—which comes in handy when someone gets carried away on a dunk. Assembly out of the box is nearly effortless with easy-to-follow instructions.

Priced at just under $100, the hook version comes with everything you need including the ball. It stores nicely in either the changing room or under the helm console and because it’s durable you’ll know it will be around for years for everyone to enjoy.
