Evinrude angler pulls in big win on Beaver Lake

April 2014 Industry Web Exclusive

We love Evinrude outboards here at PDB. The company has an official lineup of pontoon-specific engines which tells us a lot about their commitment to our industry. The company is also extremely involved in the professional fishing circuit. In fact, one of their top anglers just pulled in a big win.

Team Evinrude’s Matt Arey had an unforgettable performance this past weekend at the Walmart FLW Tour at Beaver Lake in Rogers, Arkansas. Arey’s 4-day, 20 bass limit topped the scales at 59-3, earning him top honors and $125,000.

Arey, a seasoned touring professional, attributed his win to the ability read the shoreline in Ozark lakes and his jig method. Arey, who claims to be flying under the radar this FLW season, is one of four Team Evinrude members who placed in the top ten at this weekend’s event.

Andy Morgan, the current FLW Angler of the Year secured second place behind Arey with his 20 bass limit and a 57-10 final weight. Morgan is also the current points leader in the 2014 FLW Tour angler of the year race. Evinrude anglers Scott Martin and Cody Meyer secured 8th and 9th place in this weekend’s competition.

“The Evinrude team is proud of Matt’s win this weekend and we wish him continued success as he moves onto Pickwick Lake in June,” said Chris Berg, director of marketing and strategic planning for Evinrude. “At Evinrude, we love weekends like this when two great Evinrude anglers make their mark on the tournament. Our engines are engineered to give anglers like Matt and Andy the power and performance they need to compete from blastoff to weigh in."

Arey’s win, and this weekend’s competition, will be nationally televised on the NBC Sports Network on June 14, 2014 at 11 a.m.
