Hey gang, anyone here gone from a pontoon boat to a deckboat, or the other way around? You may recall I had a Bennington tritoon and sold it. I've recently ridden on a couple Hurricane deckboats. They seemed pretty nice. Nice wake off the Yamaha 150 for tubing, etc.

What do you think of deckboats? I seem to think people aren't very fond of them, but I don't know why. And this forum used to have a general deckboat area, but there's now only 1 post.

Thanks for your comments.

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra towing a pontoon trailer. I have had this set-up for the past 3 years with no problems. Now all the trailer lights blink when I use the turn signal. The trailer lights are on and when I step on the brake the lights go out completely. If I turn off the running lights on the truck the trailer lights work fine. Any ideas what is wrong?

Thanks, Hayden

Best cheap boat cover ever...billboards

Ok, for years I've put off spending the big bucks on a custom fit cover for my pontoon.

With Arizona's sun, boat covers just don't last long. By my math, I could either buy silver tarps every six months or buy a new custom cover every 2-3 years. Either way, the $$ ended up being a wash in the end.

Well, I have just found the best alternative to a tarp. Old billboard.

Ok, so billboards nowadays are like a tarp with the advertisement printed on them. They're stretched over a frame and this makes them easy to put up and change for the billboard companies.

Last years I was helping my son's winter drumline and they use old billboards spread out on a basketball floor for their performances. The old billboard protects the gym floor and they can paint a theme onto the billoboard for their show. They unfold them for their performance and then fold them up at the end. I got to checking this stuff out and was quite impressed with it's durability.

Last November I was hanging out at work and saw some workers changing out a billboard. I walked over and asked them where I could get an old billboard and how much the cost. They said "Thirty bucks, do you want on with a white back or a black back?" They had some in the back of their truck that were no longer needed. I got a white one that was 20'x60'.

I cut it in half, installed some grommets and covered up my 20' pontoon boat. One side has the advertisement on it and the back is white. I put the ad down and white side out. Here it is about 9 months later and it's doing great. It's still supple and shows no signs of drying up in the Arizona sun. It's tough too, having been through some pretty good wind storms this month. I just installed the grommets every 2' on the cut edges and they show no sign stretching or tearing out the holds.

The billboard installers said this stuff is designed to last 6 to 10 years in the sun. For $30 I got two covers out of this that'll last me forever.

Black Knob Allowing Raising/lowering Of Bimini (Bennington)

My 05 Bennington bimini top left black knob that allows raising and lowering the top and securing it when moving suddenly disappeared. The top was in the stowed position and never raised this summer. The right knob is very snug in that position and it seems impossible for it to vibrate loose. When I replaced the missing knob on the left it was snug and requires strong force to loosen it. I can't believe any of my family would tinker with it as they know how I protect my water craft.Theft would seem odd. Have any of you Benny owners or operaters had a problem like this??
