Have a 50 HP Mercury 2S, after trolling or running slow for a while the motor will die and I need to pump the primer bulb to resart the engine. The motor runs fine at speed. All of the fuel lines are original with the exception of the fuel cap which was replaced last year.

Planning on replacing the fuel line to see if that solves the problem but looking for some other possible causes.

Any help/comments appreciated

While doing spring maintenance (oil change & lube), I discovered that the air filter on my 90 4S was deteriorated. I went to the local dealer to get another and was shocked that it was $82! This thing is about as big as the palm of your hand.

They didn't have it in stock, so it is on order. After I left, I started to wonder if I could find a source of open-cell foam and re-cover it myself.

The parts guy says he has seen this happen to others - he blames ethanol in gas. That doesn't sound credible to me.

If you last used ethanol gasoline in your boat & left some in your tank or motor over the winter, it may not start this spring.

The ethanol eats the older "O" rings & gaskets. It also converts into water which will cause corrosion.

Many boat dealers & marinias sell ethanol gas to get more maintenance business.

Red
