What Did I Hit?

March 2006 News

After reviewing five years of its own claim files, BoatU.S. Marine Insurance lists the most common causes for insurance claims among boat owners.

The top nine claims are: striking submerged objects; sinking; fire and explosion; wind and weather; collisions; grounding; lightning; theft of the boat; and theft of equipment. Both the individual number of claims, as well as insurance claim dollar amounts, were factored in to compile the list.

The list was published in the January 2006 issue of Seaworthy, the damage avoidance newsletter from BoatU.S. Marine Insurance.
