PWC's-Your Covered

April 2006 News

The Hartford Financial Services Group is offering new insurance coverage specifically for personal watercraft and other recreational vehicles.

The new coverage, available to AARP members through the AARP Auto and Homeowners Insurance Program, is designed for the baby boomer generation. AARP membership is available to those 50 and older.

About 79,500 personal watercraft were sold in the United States in 2004, and roughly 99 percent of those were sold for family recreation, according to The Hartford.

"It's clear that baby boomers, older adults and families are enjoying these activities in record numbers, " Mike Concannon, senior vice president of personal insurance for The Hartford said in a statement.

The new insurance is available to AARP members in 28 states. Coverage, pending approval, will be offered in additional states throughout this year.

Today, the coverage is available as a stand-alone policy. But plans are under way to offer the coverage to customers outside AARP through The Hartford's network of independent agents. This new plan will be rolled out on a state-by-state basis before year-end.
