NASCAR star Martin Truex Jr. spent Wednesday afternoon touring Mercury Marine, meeting employees and signing autographs.
Mercury is a sponsor of Truex's No. 1 Chevrolet car. The two-time Busch Series champion and current NEXTEL Cup rookie is a driver for Dale Earnhardt Inc. But when he's not racing, Truex likes to fish near his North Carolina home.
"I'm an avid fisherman and am out on my boat three, sometimes four days a week," he said. Truex owns a Nitro? performance fishing boat powered by a 200 horsepower Mercury Verado outboard. "I like the Verado because it's quiet and it gets good gas mileage."
Truex was in the region for this weekend's USG Sheetrock 400 at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill.
