Robbers Get Electronics and Booze

July 2006 News

Authorities in southern Illinois are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars worth of equipment taken from boats docked at Rend Lake Marina.

Thieves recently got into more than 80 boats some time after the security guard left for the night, according to the Benton Evening Post in Benton, Ill. The Franklin County Sheriff's Department was notified late last week.

The robbers pried open hatches and cut canvas covers to gain entry to the boats, the sheriff's office told the paper. They targeted stereos, televisions and alcoholic beverages.

The sheriff's office believes the culprits arrived at the marina by boat, and used the wagons provided for marina guests to transport the stolen goods to the boat.
