October 2009 News

The Personal Watercraft Industry Association recently presented Ray Tsuneyoshi, director of the California Department of Boating and Waterways, with the 2009 Boating Safety Leadership Award.

Tsuneyoshi was recognized at the 50th annual National Association of State Boating Law Administrators conference in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is the third recipient of this award, which honors an individual in the boating law community who has displayed significant efforts in promoting boater safety.

Tsuneyoshi has worked to enact mandatory boater education, with an emphasis on the necessity of wearing a life jacket and staying sober. He also helped his department navigate a budgetary crisis in the first half of 2009.
