Hearing set on proposed E15 pump-label rule

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will host a public hearing in November on proposed gasoline pump-label rulemaking in connection with its recent approval of E15.

The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 16 at the Knickerbocker Hotel in Chicago.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association said it plans to attend the hearing and it encourages other members of the boating industry to be there to voice their concerns about the EPA's approach.

The EPA's proposed rule would require that gas stations selling E15 put a label on the pump to warn consumers that E15 is only suitable for cars from model-year 2007 or later.

The NMMA says that is not enough to keep consumers from mistakenly putting E15 into their boats, older model cars or other vehicles not approved for E15.
