Christmas on the Pecos

December 2010 News
Every year, 100 Carlsbad homeowners decorate their homes for the holidays and share their festive lights with people cruising in pontoon boats along the Pecos River.

The annual Christmas on the Pecos extravaganza runs now through Dec. 31. Three pontoon boats piloted by Navy officers take visitors on a 40-minute ride to see the lights along the banks of the Pecos River. Organizers estimate more than one million lights are used in the displays set up in yards, around boat docks and on river islands.

The event has been named among the top 100 "must see" events by the American Bus Association every year since 1996.

The three pontoon boats go out 12 to 15 times a night between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. No tours are offered on Christmas Eve. Tickets are sold in advance and can be purchased online. Tickets also are sold at the ticket office on departure days, but reservations are recommended. Children under age two travel free as "lap" passengers.

All boats leave the Pecos River Village Conference Center, 711 Muscatel, Carlsbad. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.christmasonthepecos.com.
