Connecticut boat tax plan on hold

A committee vote on a bill passing through the Connecticut Legislature, which would put new taxes on private boats, is on hold while the committee continues to discuss it, according to an article in The Day.

If passed the bill would allow for property tax on boats and private planes, and is meant to generate $43 million in tax revenue for local municipalities. This measure is strongly opposed by the boating and aviation industries in Connecticut.

"We had thought perhaps it would be ready today so we put it on the agenda just in case, but it's on hold," Rep. Patricia Widlitz, chairwoman of the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee, told The Day after the committee meeting. "But we're meeting tomorrow, so you never know."
