Marine companies sponsor college fishing team

August 2011 News

Dallas Baptist University announced a three-year exclusive sponsorship agreement with Legend Boats and Mercury Marine.

The university's fishing team will have access to two fully-equipped 20-foot Legend bass fishing boats powered by Mercury engines for intercollegiate competition.

"We are very blessed and excited about the partnership with Legend Boats and Mercury Marine," Dallas Baptist athletics director Ryan Erwin said in a statement. "Both of these companies are considered to be one of the best in the industry, and we are honored to have the Patriot Bass Fishing Team using their equipment."

The university will support and allow for the fishing team to compete at the local, regional and national levels. The team will compete on all existing major collegiate bass fishing circuits, the university said.

"I am very impressed with the vision and direction of the DBU Bass Fishing program. Legend Boats is excited to be involved with a program that is on the cutting edge of competitive collegiate fishing. Being involved with the DBU program at such an early stage will allow the partnership to grow together," Legend Boats president Randy Qualls said in a statement.

"Mercury Marine has supported collegiate fishing for years. However, the goals and direction that DBU is taking with their program is quite impressive. We expect the partnership between DBU and Mercury Marine to grow in the coming years," added Michelle Kilburn, Mercury's manager of tournaments and endorsements.
