Getting Children The Correct Life Jacket

The BoatUS Foundation stresses the importance of making sure children have the proper fitting life jacket before they get out on the water. Unlike buying shoes that kids will grow into, buying a properly fitting life jacket can prevent tragedy.

Kids’ life jackets come in three sizes that include infant, child and youth sizes. These sizes should be closely examined and the correct jacket should also be US Coast Guard approved to ensure maximum protection. BoatUS has provided a Kids’ Life Jacket Loaner Program at 530 locations where life jackets may be borrowed for boating excursions and will provide the correct size jacket to ensure the child’s safety.

Pontoon Legs Goes Hydraulic

Hewitt Machine & Manufacturing, Inc. has created an aluminum constructed, hydraulically actuated pontoon lifting system that is now available for pontoon boats equipped with I/O sterndrive propulsion.

The I/O Pontoon Legs version is comprised of hydraulically actuated legs that are installed on the rear of the boat and front underside of the deck and lifts the boat with an onboard controller or key fob remote within seconds. When the legs are lifted away, nothing is exposed that would affect your boat’s performance and installation doesn’t void the boat’s warranty, keeping the pontoon safe and powering off at its optimal performance.

Summer Maintenance Tips

This year, before you get your boat on the water, be sure to give it the “once over” and check your boat to ensure that everything is in proper working order. Falcon Safety Products Inc. encourages boaters to look over the your boating checklist and make sure that your summer adventures will be as comfortable and enjoyable as they should be.

First, check the hull and deck of the boat for any wear, cracking or any other degradation. Checking propellers during the basic boat checking is also very important. Once the larger areas have been cleared, fasteners and fittings should be inspected for snug and secure placement.

Inspection and preventative maintenance will help control any future repairs and checkups and add longevity to your boat. After looking over the larger and mechanical components of the boat, looking into the electrical systems and engine systems is next on the captain’s checklist. Check over electrical fittings and make sure that the battery is charged and will continue to hold the charge. Look out for fraying in the wires and repair if necessary. Check all fluid levels and make sure they’re clean and acceptable to run in the engine. Also remember to check fire extinguishers, life jackets and make sure there is a sound producing device onboard such as the Falcon ECO Sound Marine Horn, which is a non-flammable horn featuring a global warming potential rating of 6 (99.5 percent), making it lower than any other non-flammable horn on the market. Making sure that this checklist is adhered to will ensure a safe and amazing boating season.

BugPatch

The bug-free solution

We love to spend the warm days of summer outside, but the incessant biting and buzzing of ticks, mosquitoes and other bugs can be not only annoying, but dangerous. The BugPatch, a chemical-free, transdermal patch that offers head-to-toe protection, is a safe and effective solution for repelling biting insects. Placing the patch on your skin two hours before protection is needed and wearing for 24-36 hours insures protection for up to 12 hours after the patch is removed. BugPatch sends a supply of Vitamin B1, which masks the scent of carbon dioxide (a natural attractant to bugs), and provides long lasting protection, making the “fun days of summer” fun again.
