PDB TESTED No. 143: Alegria Men’s Boating Shoe

Published in the July 2013 Issue July 2013 News Roy Sparks

If you look up Alegria in a dictionary you’ll discover it means happiness. Dig a little deeper and you’ll realize it’s also a new line of footwear created by PG Lite, a California-based company.

As we’ve tested boat shoes over the years we’ve looked for waterproof footwear that quickly and efficiently allows water to drain through them. Although these are great features, sometimes it’s nice to have a pair of boating shoes that are just extremely comfortable.

The Alegria line is developed with technical features that promote health and wellness and its simple slip-on ergonomic construction suits the relaxed boating lifestyle. The heavenly padded interlocking footbed on the Alex Cafe/Orange Nubuck shoes we tested really feel like you’re walking on clouds. And the best part is the more you wear them, the better they form to your feet. Made with leather in a variety of bright, up-beat designs, the men’s line provides all-day comfort and style in one.

The footbed system, made with latex, memory foam and cork, forms to the natural contours of the foot, improving posture and arch support. Prices range from $129.95 to $139.95, which may be higher than what you’re used to paying for a boat shoe. But the added comfort is worth it, plus the extra support will have you wearing these shoes more than just on your trips to the lake. For those long walks to the marina, give your feet a little love this summer.
