From The Forums: How Fast Is Too Fast?

Published in the September 2013 Issue September 2013 News

Our forum members are discussing speed when it comes to tubes and wakeboard. Here’s what going on:

[Drive2Boat] posed this question.

I may never do this, but out of curiosity, do any of you guys know about how fast you need to go to pull an average tube or wakeboard? Thanks for your shared knowledge.

[rickdb1] With my toon, I can pull a tuber about 25 mph. Not a super thrilling ride, but enough for most.

[Moser] I can give a really dull tube ride with my 'toon at about 15 or 18 mph. It was so dull my nephew stood up and back flipped off to end it. If you can get them going straight at 25 mph you can give them a heck of a slingshot in the turn.

[Nautical] My understanding of wakeboarding is that the perfect speed is 18 mph. However, that is behind an inboard designed to make wake. A pontoon doesn't make a wake that would satisfy a wakeboarder, even a little.

[bigkahuna] We pull our adult kids on the wakeboard about 15 to 18 mph and they are totally satisfied with the wake our triple ‘toon makes. We pull our Big Mable tube at about 22-27 mph depending on who's on it, and last but not least, we pull our water skiers at about 25 mph.

What are your thoughts? What speeds do you pull tubes and wakeboards at? Go over to www.pdbmagazine.com/forum to share your experience.
