PDB TESTED No. 148: Floating Device

Published in the September 2013 Issue September 2013 PDB Tested

I’ll be honest: it was a little hard to find someone on my boat who was willing to put the BumFloat on for a photo. It is a little silly-looking, but so is wearing a lifejacket upside down just so you can free up your arms when floating in the water.

But after the photo was taken for our review, there was no shortage of people wanting to give it a try. For those with experience wearing an uncomfortable lifejacket the wrong way to stay afloat, the very comfortable and fully adjustable BumFloat is a welcome advantage.

It really is perfect for anyone who likes to bum around in the water with friends and family. It gives you free range of motion with your arms and legs while allowing you to float in an upright position with your shoulders at the waterline.

By the way, BumFloats are not certified by the Coast Guard or any other agency for that matter. It is not a lifejacket or a lifesaving device in any form or fashion. Priced at $49.95 it’s a lot cheaper that ruining a lifejacket each summer, and BumFloats are available in M/L and L/XL. And for those really looking to relax, BumFloats have built-in loops for tethering so you can tether to the dock or to an anchored boat.
