The World's First Gondola Pontoon

November 2014 Web Exclusive

If you want to check out a fun boat, look at Joe Pisciotta’s renovated pontoon in Falls Church, Va. The Falls Church News-Press says this local entrepreneur and former teacher was inspired for his renovation following this summer’s trip to Tuscany, Italy with his Lake Barcroft neighbors and fellow Italian supper club members. After spending a week in a villa, Pisciotta came home and designed a way to convert his ‘toon into what he calls “the world’s first gondola pontoon.” After having a CAD drawing made, the 55-inch tall aluminum fins he designed were constructed in Pennsylvania. After brush-finishing the fins in Sterling and adding a protective coating in Baltimore, Pisciotta was ready to install the finished products on the pontoons of his boat. The fins were designed to represent some of Tuscany’s different districts.

When his gondola-style pontoon was ready to hit the water, Pisciotta invited neighbors onboard for the maiden voyage, and he treated his guests well. Italian wine, cheese, bread, and grapes were tasteful appetizers for the big day. And with Pisciotta decked in a traditional gondolier white-and-blue striped shirt, his red scarf flapping in the wind, and the sounds of “O Solo Mio” and other Italian songs reverberating across the water, the maiden voyage of the gondola pontoon was a sight you didn’t want to miss. Hats off to Pisciotta for his fun innovation!
