V-MODA Faders VIP High Fidelity Earplugs

Anything over 85 decibels when exposed to for a long period of time can cause gradual hearing loss. So for fun, when doing this product review I brought along a dBa meter just to get an idea of the wind noise on a boat. With outboards getting bigger and more powerful each year, it’s actually kind of a new problem for us in the pontoon industry. While cruising, the readings averaged around the century mark on this day with my Mercury 250 Verado set at about 3500 rpms.  

Protecting your hearing is important, but those cheap, generic orange ear plugs are a thing of the past. If you’ve ever used them, you know how they muffle sound and can be uncomfortable. V-MODA’s new Faders VIP Hi-Fi earplugs were designed by music producers and DJs to help combat hearing loss. Rather than blocking out all sound, they filter out the damaging noise up to 12 decibels, letting the right amount of sound in without blocking out too much.

At $20, this is why I love them. The detachable cord helps keep entanglement from happening and I love having a case to keep them clean between uses. But the biggest advantage is with three sizes of medical-grade “BLISS 2.0” silicone fittings, you can truly get a custom fit to your ear. Plus, these earplugs work great and are like nothing else I’ve ever tried.
