When United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills woke up in the hospital after placing his backpack on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that detonated and left him without any arms or legs, he had a couple of unusual requests.

“When I woke up, I said all I want is Double Stuff Oreos, pineapple juice and I’m going to buy a double-decker pontoon boat,” recalls Mills, who was raised in Michigan and was on his third deployment to Afghanistan at the time. “I’m dead serious, that’s what I really said. My grandfather had a pontoon and he used to pull us around on a tube on Higgins Lake and even though I had never owned a boat before, that’s what I wanted.”
