Three Things

A solid wakeboard tower, sporty and aggressive design, plus a new helm console are just a taste of what this PlayCraft has to offer with more highlights than we have room to list.

Breakdown

Starting with the massive and sporty helm station, you truly have access to a lot of great information when you’re behind the steering wheel. We love the new look that includes red bezel gauges in the center of the dash with rocker switches on the sides. Plus you have a 12-volt outlet, MP3/Auxiliary jack and easy access to the Bluetooth Kicker stereo. Speaking of tunes, there are two large subwoofers and four speakers with tweeters and the speakers actually light up with the music and change colors, which perfectly flows with the rope lighting. On the elevated platform for the captain is a Flexsteel helm chair that slides, swivels and reclines.

The interior and seating area is as comfortable as it looks and extremely inviting with an open layout and clearly capable of supporting the 15 passengers this ‘toon is rated for. It starts with the mostly white vinyl seats that take advantage of an aggressive color scheme that includes a dominant red, along with a black checkered pattern. It’s made up of individually sewn pieces, not a stamp, which only adds to the high-end feel. And because the furniture is all done in-house, there are over 50 different color combinations available so you can truly make your boat your own.

Throughout the boat you’ll find plenty of red to tie in the look like on the canopy top, ski/tow bar, as well as the side rails. There is even a color-matched cushion for the removable cooler onboard.

Below the two chaise lounges in the bow you can easily access the storage below, plus there is even a flip-out trash receptacle located in the back of the portside lounger. In the stern the tall sundeck provides great storage options below and of course one of our favorite features is the patented boarding system. Actual steps are built into the stern starboard pontoon and when you add the three-step ladder below you’re nearly 2 feet deeper in the water when compared to other ladders. Other key features include a locking glove box, a very long in-floor storage locker and we really like the padded vinyl sides around the interior of the boat that create a nice and clean look.

Inspection

The base of this performance pontoon includes three U-shaped pontoons with the center 24- by 24-inch tube with the outside tubes 20 inches wide by 24 inches tall and all are braced well to the one-piece floor using C-shaped cross-members. Included in this package is a full-length performance shield along with heavy-duty extruded aluminum RAC-R-FINS.

Handling

If there was ever a pontoon built with the Mercury 400 four-stroke in mind, it’s this PlayCraft Xtreme. She accelerates extremely quickly and dives beautifully into the sharp turns. At full throttle we easily reached speeds over 50 miles per hour, but this is more than just a go-fast pontoon. This PlayCraft is a thrill ride, but because of its “over-built” and solid construction, you feel extremely safe and perfectly in control at all times.

Final Thoughts

Racing is in its DNA and once again PlayCraft has created a performance pontoon unlike any other out there. You’ll pay a little more for the added power and all the features that come with this ‘toon, but you’ll also get a lot in return.

Why we love this boat…A lot of added value with this 2016 model with the sound system, updated helm console and other great touches as PlayCraft continues to build on its past success.

Just being picky…The only thing missing would be a larger swim platform in the stern, but really this boat as tested has about everything a thrill ride should have.
