Havana Sun Sunscreen: PDB TESTED No. 223

July 2018 Feature Roy Sparks

Some people tan and some people burn; it’s really as simple as that. And while at times I suppose I wish my skin was capable of a nice dark tan, the reality is I’m a shade hunter and I try to avoid the sun whenever possible. However, I’m also a boater and when I’m diligent about using sunscreen the sun becomes a non-factor in determining how my night goes after I’m off the water.

Havana Sun is a brand-new line from Ron Rice—a pioneer in the sun care industry—that has quickly taken off. Named after the city in Cuba, Havana Sun offers a wide variety of products but it was the high SPF 50 that caught my attention. It’s enriched with vitamin A, C and E and I like how it doubles as a moisturizer and helps nourish your skin. Plus it smells like summer no matter what time of the year you’re using it.

For $12.99 you can pick up a bottle that is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, and after giving it a try ourselves at a recent boat test we were happy with the protection it offered.
