K2 Coolers Portable Ice Chests:PDB TESTED No. 207

July 2020 Feature

K2’s Summit 20 and 90 coolers are, in a word, cool. If you’re looking for a high quality way to store food or keep your drinks chilled, you really can’t beat this performance. Both coolers include one-piece Rotomolded construction for no-nonsense durability and food-grade material that’s UV-resistant and DryIce compatible. K2’s trademark SNOWblown insulation is designed to lock in the chill for a shockingly long time, even on hot days. Thanks to the rubber feet, the Summit 90 also makes for a nicely stable bench seat—and you can also swap these out for SMOOTHglide covers when you want an easier job of sliding it around. The Summit 20 is always easy to carry with its cushioned nylon strap.

When the weekend is wrapping up, you can rely on thorough drainage with a partial turn design, so you can’t lose the plug. The Summit 90 also has integrated padlock holes and a 63-can capacity so you have enough room to feed the whole family—though it’ll take the whole family to haul this bad boy around. Measuring in at 36 inches long with a fill line height of 14 inches, the Summit 90’s girth makes it heavy—but this is an unavoidable part of the overall masterpiece of its functionality, especially for longer trips or larger groups. The Summit 20 weighs in with an easier-to-haul can capacity of 14.

At $419 and $159 respectively, these coolers are no lightweights when it comes to price, but the quality, reliability, and sheer ice retention power makes every penny worth it in my book.
