23 Sneak Peek: Bailey Truly Offers Custom

Published in the November 2022 Issue November 2022 Feature

Bailey Custom Boats is producing a limited quantity of their special edition boats for the upcoming year. The pontoons built by the Georgia-based manufacturer are made with sinker cypress wood cut down around 150 years ago. These logs came from the bottom of the Mississippi River where they were soaked and covered with different sediments, which gives them their beautiful colorations and patterns.

There is no stain on any of this wood, only a clear coat on top of natural coloring. The Bailey family has approximately 500,000 board feet with about 100,000 board feet treated, dried, and ready to go. The other 400,000 feet is kept submerged under water to preserve it. Sinker cypress wood is prized for its durability and resistance to rot and pests due to its oils and tight grain, making this a boat you can pass down for generations. The cypress wood only needs a clear coat every six to 10 years, depending on the boat's exposure to the elements.

Bailey Custom Boats provides a totally customizable experience to build a pontoon boat specific to each customer's needs. (www.baileycustomboats.com)
