Camper Enclosure Details

Hey all!

I am hoping to make a full camper enclosure for my boat. I would like to get some details on how the windows are made on other enclosures. I want to incorporate Sunbrella canvas, window glass and screens.

I am interested in the placement of the window materials. Is the screen sewn into the canvas side with zippered roll-down window glass and then is an additional canvas, zippered roll-up panel go inside of everything to provide privacy? Do the windows use snaps or Velcro for fastening? Is the window glass sewn into the side panel canvas which in turn has a zippered screen sewn into it?

Sorry Dan, I haven't got to this yet. But from what I remember...the screen is sewed into the canvas with the clear window part sewed at the top on the inside of the enclosure. Then another layer of canvas is sewed to the top of that.
So when it is done you can roll up the canvas to see out then roll up the clear to get fresh air. The final two parts have several pieces of velcro sewed in strategic places around the edges to hold them in place.

I had the enclosure on my last boat.

It was as Randy described on the windows, screens on the outside, clear in the middle, privacy canvas on the inside. The screens were sewn into the canvas cover, the rest were sewn fast at the top, with velcro around the edges to keep it all shut. there were tieing strings between each layer to secure them when rolled up. I'm pretty sure the screens were sandwiched between two layers of canvas.

The zippers zip from top to bottom, so gravity keeps them closed. They also zip from bow to stern so they don't work loose underway, or when towing. I marked mine with a magic marker, but you could sew in landmarks so you know quickly which piece goes where and what is top and bottom. That comes in handy on windy days during installation. I've had big plastic zippers, and smaller metal zippers, big plastic are lots easier to use.

Check out the Taylor Made EZ pop up enclosure. I have two and they are awesome. They set up and tear down in just a few minutes and fold up very small. A double thickness air mattress inflated between the front seat creats a king sized bed. Coleman makes a battery operated ceiling fan light combo that snaps right inside .
