West Marine, the largest specialty waterlife outfitter of quality marine grade products, apparel, footwear and accessories, today presented a check to Carl Blackwell, president of Discover Boating, at a press conference at the Miami International Boat Show. The funds are being used to support the consumer campaign designed to build positive awareness for boating and introduce new people to the sport. As a result of Discover Boating’s efforts in 2013, 2.6 million people visited DiscoverBoating.com and DiscoverBoating.ca.
“West Marine feels it’s our responsibility to help grow participation,” said West Marine’s CEO Matt Hyde. “We’re dedicated to providing an outstanding customer experience, and to reaching out to new customers. Discover Boating is doing a great job of inviting new people to a life on the water, and we’re proud to support their efforts,” noted Hyde.
Discover Boating is a public awareness effort managed by the NMMA on behalf of the North American recreational boating industry. Discover Boating programs focus on increasing participation and creating interest in recreational boating by demonstrating the benefits, accessibility and fun of boating while helping to educate potential boaters and offering opportunities to experience the fun and togetherness of being on the water on a boat.
