West Marine announces new "Deck Out Dad" social media contest

April 2015 News

West Marine has really been proactive lately with the whole social media thing. To that end, they’ve launched a new social media campaign called Deck Out Dad! Is your dad just too square? Is his fishing gear in shambles? Is his lifejacket held together with baling wire and duct tape? Is his pontoon getting too shabby? Whether he needs the help in the fashion department or just needs a little extra oomph in the pocketbook, West Marine wants to help. Share some photos of your pops on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, and you could net your old man a $500 gift card from West Marine's retail stores.

“There are a lot of people who love being out on the water with their dads – even if their dad could use a makeover,” says Deb Radcliff, Senior Vice President of Marketing for West Marine. “The contest is a fun way to share photos of friends and families who enjoy spending time together on the water.”

The contest runs from May 11 to June 19, 2015, so there's plenty of time to get your photos out to the world. Simply post your pictures on Instagram, tag West Marine in the photo (@westmarineinc), and use the hashtags #westmarine #deckoutdad. The rest of the caption should tell why dear old dad needs the makeover/deserves the award. You can be silly or sentimental, whichever strikes your fancy, but you might have a better shot if you're on or near the water. Also, per West Marine's contest rules: "The winning entrant will be asked to visit a West Marine store to pick up their $500 gift card, and must agree to a brief photo shoot that shows them shopping. (What he buys is up to him.) He must also agree to use of the photos (before and after) for West Marine promotional purposes."

So get out there and show off your dad! Or maybe be embarrassed by him! Either way, make sure he's okay with it.
